The Public Provident Fund Protocol: Sovereign Guarantees and Triple-E Advantage
The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is India’s premier government-backed fixed-income scheme. Operating under a 15-year statutory tenure, it offers absolute capital safety backed by the Government of India, complete protection from court attachments, and coveted Exempt-Exempt-Exempt (EEE) tax status.
The Golden 5th-of-the-Month Deposit Rule
PPF interest is computed monthly on the lowest balance maintained between the close of the 5th day and the last day of each calendar month. Depositing your monthly contribution on or before the 5th ensures you earn interest for that entire month.
About the PPF Calculator

Clear rules on deposits, loan facilities, and tenure extensions.
What is the maximum and minimum deposit allowed in a PPF account per financial year?
The minimum mandatory deposit is ₹500 per financial year, and the statutory maximum limit is ₹1,50,000 per financial year (across self and minor accounts combined).
Can a PPF account be extended after completing the initial 15-year maturity?
Yes. Upon completing 15 years, you can extend your PPF account in blocks of 5 years indefinitely, either with fresh contributions (earning 80C benefits) or without making further contributions while still earning tax-free interest.
When can I make partial withdrawals or take a loan against my PPF balance?
You can apply for a loan against your PPF between the 3rd and 6th financial year. Partial withdrawals are permitted starting from the 7th financial year onwards, capped at 50% of the account balance.
